Statement

The protection and security of your personal data is very important to us. Personal data is collected, processed and used by Verein / Österreichisches Museum für Volkskunde (Austrian Museum of Folk Life and Folk Art; hereinafter referred to as: Volkskundemuseum Wien / ‘we’) only in accordance with the provisions of the Austrian and European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). As a user, you consent to the processing of your data in accordance with this policy.

The current version of the GDPR can be found at https://eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/EN/TXT/HTML/?uri=CELEX:32016R0679.

Below you will find information about what data is collected during your website visit and when contacting Volkskundemuseum Wien, and how this data is used.

2. Personal data (collected data)

When you visit our website, we collect personal data to the extent that is technically required:

• Name of the file accessed

• Date and time of access

• Amount of data transferred

• Notification of successful access

• URL of the previously visited page (referrer URL)

• Browser type and browser version

• Operating system used by the user

• Anonymised IP address of the requesting device (anonymisation is achieved by removing the last octet for IPv4 addresses and the last 80 bits for IPv6 addresses; the complete IP address is therefore never stored).

This data cannot be traced back to specific individuals. It is used exclusively for statistical purposes and to ensure proper operation. Personal user profiles are not created. The data is not passed on to third parties. This website does not use any functions that aim to evaluate the access behaviour of individual users. The data is not merged with other data sources.

3. Cookie usage

Cookies are used on these pages to recognise related requests during your visit and to temporarily store settings (known as ‘session identifiers’). The session identifier is deleted by your browser shortly after your visit. Your consent to the temporary use of cookies during your visit is stored permanently by your browser, depending on your individual settings. Most browsers are set to automatically accept cookies. However, you can deactivate the storage of cookies or set your browser to notify you when cookies are sent.

4. Local storage data processing

For ‘My Collection’ (‘Meine Sammlung’), we use local storage functions (also referred to as ‘local data’ or ‘local storage’). These functions store data locally in your browser's cache, where it remains even after you close your browser window – unless you actively delete the cache. Local storage therefore enables the addresses of the items you have selected to be stored on your computer when you use ‘My Collection’; this ‘watch list’ can be used across multiple browser sessions.

Third parties cannot access the data stored in local storage. This data is not passed on to third parties and is not used for advertising purposes. If you do not want the local storage function to be used, you can adjust the settings of your respective browser. Please note that this may result in functional restrictions.

5. Links to other websites

This privacy policy applies only to this website. Usage of cross-referenced (linked) content provided by other providers may be governed by principles other than those set out above. Such links are marked accordingly.

6. Integrated services

For integrated services (Sketchfab and OpenStreetMap), your data will be transferred based on your consent in accordance with Article 6, 1(a) GDPR.

We would like to point out that the USA is a third country that is not secure in terms of data protection and that you do not have the same rights in the USA with regard to your data as you do in Europe. There are no adequate safeguards in the USA regarding data transfer. By accepting the use of cookies, you agree to this transfer in accordance with Article 49, 1(a) GDPR. With your consent, the data will be processed by the respective service provider as the controller and will no longer be subject to the control of Volkskundemuseum Wien.

Sketchfab

3D models on our website are integrated using an iframe from Sketchfab, a company owned by Sketchfab, Inc, 440 9th Ave, Suite 1700, New York, NY 10001, USA, with its European branch located at 3 Rue d’Uzès, 75002, Paris, France.

Sketchfab processes data when you access the Sketchfab 3D models on our website. If you have a Sketchfab account, the generated data can be assigned to your personal account.

Further information on data processing by Sketchfab can be found at: https://sketchfab.com/privacy

Sketchfab uses the following cookies, provided you have given your consent:

OpenStreetMap

In order to show you the location of content, some pages display maps provided by OpenStreetMap. OpenStreetMap is a mapping tool of OpenStreetMap Foundation, St. John's Innovation Centre, Cowley Road, Cambridge, CB4 0WS, United Kingdom.

OpenStreetMap is integrated via an iframe to show the map images.

If you have given your consent, personal data (including your IP address, browser and device type, the referring website, the date and time of access and the pages accessed on OpenStreetMap) will be collected by OpenStreetMap.

Further information on data processing by OpenStreetMap can be found at: https://osmfoundation.org/wiki/Privacy_Policy

7. SSL encryption

This site uses SSL encryption for security reasons and to protect the transmission of confidential content, such as requests you send to us as the site operator. An encrypted connection is indicated by the address line of the browser changing from ‘http://’ to ‘https://’ and the lock symbol in your browser bar.

When SSL encryption is activated, the data you transmit to us cannot be read by third parties.

8. Your rights and contact

You have the right to information, correction, deletion, restriction, data portability, revocation and objection. You can contact us at any time at office@volkskundemuseum.at.

If you believe that the processing of your data violates data protection legislation or that your data protection rights have been violated in any other way, you can lodge a complaint with the Austrian Data Protection Authority (Österreichische Datenschutzbehörde).
